integration of such topics as fitness, nutrition, human sexuality, consumer health,
drug education, and mental health.
205 Principles of Accident Causation and Prevention (4:3:0). Investigation
of safety-related problems; emphasis on fire, home, occupational, and vehicle safety;
violent and property crime prevention.
220 Dimensions of Mental Health (3:3:0). Integration of behavioral and
sociocultural factors in the study of mental health.
305 Teaching Methods in Health Education (K-12) (3:3:0). Content, methodology,
and resource materials in teaching health education for physical education teaching
majors.
310 Drugs and Health (3:3:0). Analysis of drug use, with emphasis on its
positive aspects; alternatives to drug misuse and abuse.
312 Health and Wellness Choices (3:3:0). May be taken by nonmajors. Designed
to actively involve students in becoming managers of their personal health and well
being throughout the life span. Consistent with Healthy People 2000 goals for the
nation. Emphasis placed on lifetyle activity and fitness, behavioral change, and
maintenance.
323 Program Implementation and Evaluation in Health, Fitness, and Recreation
Resources (3:3:0).Prerequisite: PRLS 310 or permission of the instructor. Focus
on the implementation and evaluation of health education, fitness, and recreation
resources programs. Students use computer technology while studying the evaluative
aspects of program planning and administration.
325 Health Aspects of Human Sexuality (3:3:0). Biological, behavioral,
and sociocultural factors in human sexual behavior, apparently related to sexual
problems.
330 Nutrition (3:3:0). Assessment of dietary habits and patterns in relation
to nutrient requirements. Emphasis on weight control, diet and fitness, and current
nutritional controversies.
430 Seminar on Contemporary Health Problems (3:3:0). Overview of contemporary
and often controversial health issues with analysis of selected problems of current
concern to society.
450 Epidemiology (3:3:0). Study of the incidence, distribution, and causes
of diseases and injuries in human populations. Emphases are on essential diagnostics
and planning for community health problem solving.
480 Special Topics (1-3:3:0). Selected health issues and/or problems are
presented. Application of information to education programs receives special attention.
490 Internship (12:0:0). Directed experience to observe and participate
in health promotion and exercise science activities at community agencies, health
care centers, and private sector organizations. Graded Pass/Fail.
499 Independent Study in Health Education (1-3:0:0).Prerequisites: 90
credits and permission of department. Study of a problem area in health education
research, theory, or practice under faculty direction. May be repeated but no more
than three total credits may be earned.
