What is it?
 Students will meet one-on-one with an employer for a 30-minute practice interview session.  Employers will provide students with constructive feedback based on their performance. 

Why should you attend?
This event provides you with the valuable opportunity to receive feedback from employers on your interview skills.  Through the mock interview process, you will improve your skills and network with employers. 

How do I sign up?

Sign-ups for Interview Practice Day are on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Call Career Services at 703-993-2370 to schedule a date and time for your practice interview.

 

"The Mathmatics of Geographic Profiliing" by Dr. Mike O'Leary

The Center for Evidence-Based Policy's Crime and Place Working Group is please to announce a speical presentation: "The Mathmatics of Geographic Profiling" by Dr. Mike O'Leary.  The presentation is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18th, 2009 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the GMU Fairfax Campus, Johnson Center, 3rd Floor, Room B.  The flyer for the event can be obtained at http://gemini.gmu.edu/cebcpMathematicsofGeographicProfiling.pdf

During his presentation, Dr. O'Leary (Professor of Mathematics, Towson University) will present his research that was recently highlighted in an article in Science News(http://www.sciencenews.org/view/generic/id/39798/title/Calculating_the_geography_of_crime), which discusses the use of mathematical tools, such as Bayesian statistical modeling, to better predict and profile criminal behavior - specifically how individuals select the places that they target, and how aspects of those places influence choices.

 

Virginia Sheriff's Institute Scholarship Program
Applications due April 13, 2009

Virginia Sheriff's Institute is looking for student applicants to apply their scholarship program. The scholarship program provides an opportunity for young people across Virginia to pursue an educational curriculum in law enforcement or criminal justice. Students must be Arlington residents and majoring in Administration of Justice to be eligible to apply.
If you are interested, please come by my office at Bull Run Hall, Room 308 to pick up a copy of the application. Applications must be submitted no later than April 13, 2009.
