What is a Professional Fraternity?

A professional fraternity is distinguished from social and honorary fraternities in that its members have a common professional interest. In our case, that means that we are united in our goal to foster professional growth related to the fields of business and economics.

• The main focus of Alpha Kappa Psi is to provide leadership development, personal and professional training, and the fundamental ingredient higher education misses... experience.
  
  
• When you join Alpha Kappa Psi, you join an elite group of professionals who are committed to keeping their skills sharp and their careers on track.  This is accomplished through national and local professional programs. Our national programs include the Success Institutes, the Academy, and the College of Leadership. Our members gain many skills on the local level as they operate their chapters as "corporations." Alpha Kappa Psi members are the best and brightest business students who use these skills as stepping stones into the "real world."

• Brotherhood is the bond forged through shared challenges and opportunities.  These experiences help coalesce a single identity among those of different backgrounds and beliefs.

• PROFESSIONALISM
  The brothers of Alpha Kappa Psi share their ideals of professionalism. This professionalism is portrayed in all aspects of campus life, including everyday classes, general business meetings, and organizational events.
  
  
• ACCOMPLISHMENT
  As a pledge, you will plan a social event, attend professional events, help the community, and bond with new friends in a matter of weeks. For most, pledging will be the best of times at Alpha Kappa Psi. 
  
  
• LEADERSHIP
  Every member of Alpha Kappa Psi is a leader. Each, in his or her own way, leads the organization. Leadership roles could include planning a professional event, organizing a banquet, or being president. Outside our formal positions, we lead in our daily lives. We set examples in our classes and in our committees as being organized and proficient students.
  
  
• CHARACTER
  Alpha Kappa Psi is a diverse group of people. You will spend time learning about others and building yourself from others' experiences. You will learn to adapt to different leadership and management styles by experiencing the various ways our peers lead us. You will understand others' points-of-view because you would have learned to listen to the voices of all your brothers. This will become a part of your character and you will bring this to every work environment in which you are involved.
  
  
• TEAMWORK
  All of us have participated on teams in our classes. As a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, you are a member of a hundred-man team, all working together to make Alpha Kappa Psi a successful fraternity. You will work with many people in all different areas of the organization. Because of this, members of Alpha Kappa Psi know the rewards of an efficient and capable team.
  
  
• COMMUNICATION
  By being a member of Alpha Kappa Psi, you will learn to communicate well under different circumstances. You will talk one on one with upperclassmen and your peers to find out more about their interests. You will have the opportunity to voice your opinion in front of the entire organization. There is no one else that is more proficient at communicating than an Alpha Kappa Psi brother.

  Everyone who is part of Alpha Kappa Psi joined to better himself/herself. Whether it is to improve leadership skills, to grow professionally, or just make friends, everyone has shown motivation towards becoming a better person.

What is the atmosphere of Pi Sigma?

Simply put, Pi Sigma is the perfect combination of both professional and social atmospheres. This combination is what makes Alpha Kappa Psi so unique.  The professional atmosphere provides networking opportunities and allows members to better prepare themselves for their future in the business world. In addition to that preparation, the social atmosphere at many events allows the members to bond with new friends and form lifelong friendships and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood.
