About

EDITOR-IN-CHIEF: Angela Panayotopulos

Angela Panayotopulos is a second-year fiction-focused grad student pursuing her M.F.A. at GMU, where she graduated in 2008 with a B.A. in English. Her Greek-Americanness becomes readily apparent in her joy of breaking plates at festivals and weddings, the immediate response to most things with "Opa!" and "Bravo!" and an appreciation for the fact that the mispronunciation of her last name is the perfect ice-breaker. An aspiring novelist, her muddling in short-story-writing thus far has proved intriguing to Prick of the Spindle, Inscribed Magazine, and The George Mason Review. Angela is also a firm believer in the healing power of great literature, dancing, hugs, and olive oil.

MANAGING EDITOR: Alison Strub

Alison Strub is a native Virginian and in her second year of George Mason's M.F.A. program in Poetry. She spends her free time designing recycled jewelry and household decor for her website, Retold Story. In addition, she is an avid web and graphic designer and addicted to durian chips, military lore, her dog, and the esoteric. Her favorite magazine is Country Living and she has a soft spot for pickled wood and aprons.

POETRY EDITOR: Megan Ronan

Megan graduated from The University of Mary Washington in 2007. Now she is pursuing her MFA in poetry at George Mason and teaching composition. Her poems have appeared in Shenandoah, Peeks & Valleys, and SNReview. She likes Pilot Precise V7 pens, writing lists, and ice cream.

ASSISTANT POETRY EDITOR: Eleanor S. Tipton

Eleanor is an MFA candidate at GMU and the co-creator of the Poetry Instigator. She is the recipient of the Virginia Downs Poetry Award. Her poetry is published in Front Porch and forthcoming in Pleiades: A Journal of New Writing.

NONFICTION EDITOR: Judy Adkins

Judy is pursuing an M.F.A. at Mason. These days she primarily writes nonfiction about physical experience (i.e., sports broadly construed), gay and lesbian life, and parenting. She prizes writing that artfully places personal experience in its social and historical contexts. Judy looks forward to attempting her first triathlon this fall--and to taking a very hot shower after swimming in the Potomac's microbial waters.

FICTION EDITOR: Norah Vawter

Norah Vawter is a third-year MFA candidate in fiction at George Mason. She lives in Arlington, VA with her husband. Had her mother not forced her to attend a creative writing workshop in the summer after ninth grade, she would probably be a computer programmer or a mathematician today. However, despite the fact that the workshop met every day from 9 am until 3 pm in the summer, Norah learned that writing stories and poems was more fun than being on the math team. Though she has been known to call an equation sexy, she finds writing her novel way sexier. She also thinks that every day is a Slurpee day and more people should wear flowers in their hair.
