September Update

All, please read the following email from our President, Brandon Carroll, some key note changes would be that our first meeting is October 3, instead of September 26th.

Hello all,

As we are now all settled into the new school year, it's about time to get things rolling for the Student Veterans Association (SVA-GMU).  Last year was a big year for us in that we organized some public events, including a big 5k run, and really started to spread our name on campus.  We also had a lot of support from other organizations on campus that were more than willing to team up with us.  This year we want to start where we left off.

First things first: for those of you who would like to be removed from our contact list, let me know as soon as possible.  Otherwise, you'll find most of my e-mails will come in a simple list format.  It keeps things simple and lets you easily see the tasks / events we have coming up in the future.  That being said:

1.  Our first group meeting is tentatively scheduled for Friday, 26 SEP @ 1200.  All who can attend are strongly encouraged to attend.  We want to get a feel for how many people will be involved with SVA this year and brainstorm some ideas for events and programs we should be organizing.

2.  Mason has created a University Veteran and Military Liaison!  They are down to the last 4 candidates and have insured that there will be time for student veterans to ask the candidates questions and make recommendations. Please attend; as veterans yourselves your input will be very important.  There are two dates for these question sessions so it should fit in your schedule somewhere:

Date: Wednesday, September 17th 2008
12:00-12:30 JC 246
2:30- 3:00 JC 246

Date: Thursday, September 18th 2008
11:15- 11:45 JC 234
2:30- 3:00 JC 246

That is all for now.  Feel free to send comments, questions, concerns my way.
