Delicate, Weiss Headline VaSID University Division Men's Soccer All-State Team

BLACKSBURG, Va. - VCU senior forward Matthew Delicate was named Virginia University Division Men's Soccer Player of the Year, while Virginia Tech second-year head coach Oliver Weiss was named Coach of the Year, as voted on by Virginia Sports Information Directors.

Delicate was named the CAA Player of the Year after scoring 15 goals along with nine assists. He led the Rams to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Delicate finished his VCU career as the school's career leader in goals (44) and points (101) and earned Second-Team All-America accolades from the NSCAA and CollegeSoccerNews.com.

Weiss led Virginia Tech to the second round of the NCAA Tournament – the school's first-ever appearance in the postseason tournament. The Hokies produced a 14-5-3 overall record, tying the school mark for wins. Weiss also led Tech to a 7-3 finish and second place in the BIG EAST after being picked to finish ninth in the preseason. The Hokies defeated three nationally ranked opponents and set school season records for most goals, points and shots.

Joining Delicate on the First Team were forwards McColm Cephas (VCU), Bobby O'Brien (Virginia Tech) and Atilla Vendegh (Old Dominion). Midfielders making the First Team were Graham Albert (William and Mary), Ben Nason (Virginia Tech), Damian O'Rourke (George Mason) and Mark Totten (James Madison). Trevor McEachron (Old Dominion) and Phil Hucles (William and Mary) were named as defenders. John O'Hara (George Mason) earned his second consecutive First Team honor as a goalkeeper.

On the Second Team, at forward, were Steve Alabi (George Mason), Ken Jonmaire (Virginia Tech), Darryl Roberts (Liberty) and Pat Scherder (William and Mary). At midfielder were Tim Bezbatchenko (Richmond), Kevon Harris (Old Dominion), Bryan Hinkle (William and Mary) and Erik Sokolik (Radford). At defender were Matt Oliver (Virginia) and Gonzalo Segares (VCU). Samuel Cameron (Old Dominion) and Chase Harrison (Virginia Tech) earned Second Team nods at goalkeeper.

The Virginia Sports Information Directors' All-State teams are nominated by and voted on by sports information staffs at every college and university in the Commonwealth.
