Virginia Wesleyan College Captures First VaSID All-Sports Title

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Virginia Wesleyan College won nearly 68 percent of its athletic contests in 2003-04 to capture the annual Virginia Sports Information Directors Association College Division All-Sports Survey.  This marks the first year that the Marlins have won the award for the highest overall winning percentage among Virginia’s Division II and III schools.

Mary Washington College came in second place overall winning .644 of its contests.  Christopher Newport University was third winning .638 of its contests with Washington & Lee University coming in fourth place at .624.

Conference championships were lead by Christopher Newport and Washington & Lee with eight followed by Mary Washington with seven, Lynchburg College with four and Virginia Wesleyan College, Eastern Mennonite University, Emory & Henry College and Averett University winning two conference crowns.

In the women’s division, Washington & Lee University had the highest percentage winning .715 of its contests.  Longwood University was second (.676) followed by Christopher Newport (.655).  On the men’s side, Mary Washington College won .729 of its contests to take that division.  Virginia Wesleyan College was second at .722 with Hampden-Sydney College coming in third at .615.
