
FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University Sports Information Director Greg Prouty has announced the appointment of Lauren Cooper as Assistant Sports Information Director. Cooper previously worked at Wake Forest University during the past year as a media relations assistant with the Division I member of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). At Longwood, Cooper will assist in the daily operation of the sports information office with direct responsibility for the sports of women's basketball, field hockey, men's soccer, women's golf, women's lacrosse, and softball. She will also assist in the administration of the institution's Internet athletics website, game operations and management activities, and with the supervision of the student assistants' staff. "Lauren brings excellent communication skills and experience, along with a solid background in Division I athletics, to this position at Longwood," said Prouty. "She understands the evolving responsibilities and demands of our office, and will be a real asset to the department as we continually strive to improve upon our production." At Wake Forest, Cooper served as the primary contact for women's soccer, cross country, and track & field while being a secondary contact for men's and women's tennis. She also assisted in all aspects of media relations for football along with men's and women's basketball. Additionally, Cooper was an assistant editor for Wake Forest Football's Kickoff game-day program; maintained statistics for Demon Deacon football, men's and women's basketball, and women's soccer; and was a member of the statistics crew for the 2003 ACC men's basketball tournament. "I am very excited about joining the staff at Longwood University during its reclassification period to Division I," explained Cooper. "This is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of the sports information office while assisting the athletic department in meeting the challenge of Division I athletics certification." A native of Southern Pines, North Carolina, Cooper earned a B.A. in corporate communications from Elon (N.C.) University where she was an assistant in the institution's sports information office for two years. |
