FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University Director of Athletics Rick Mazzuto has announced the launching of the new official Internet website for Longwood University Athletics: longwoodlancers.com. The new home for Lancer Athletics on the web was launched Thursday, October 9, and has been designed by Internet Consulting Services, Inc. of Syracuse, New York. The Longwood sports information office handles the site's content and daily maintenance. "Our transition to a .com web site will greatly enhance our opportunities to communicate with various constituencies including alumni and prospective students," said Mazzuto. "The University's sports information department has done a tremendous job in preparing for the launch of this website. Sports Information Director Greg Prouty and Assistant Lauren Cooper deserve the lion's share of the credit for this effort." The new longwoodlancers.com website features comprehensive information concerning Longwood University Athletics. This includes team rosters, schedules, statistics, and press releases; an extensive departmental directory; information on the Lancer Club, athletic facilities, basketball tickets, and the student-athlete advisory committee; along with honors and award winners and even a link to Lancer apparel. The site will also provide for worldwide Internet broadcasts of Longwood basketball games. The project began its initial planning stages last spring and continued with research of web design companies that specialize in intercollegiate athletics web development. ICS was selected over the summer and the new site was designed and developed over the past couple of months. Longwood University recently began its four-year reclassification period toward Division I certification for its 14 intercollegiate athletics teams, and is competing as a Division II independent this season. The Lancers will be required to meet the Division I scheduling requirements with the 2004-05 campaign. longwoodlancers.com |
