VaSID Distinguished Service Award

The Virginia Sports Information Directors organization sponsors a Distinguished Service Award.  The award is given bi- annually to individuals who have promoted college athletics and the concept of the student-athlete.  To be eligible, a person should have been a part of the athletic community as a coach, administration or media member for a minimum of 20 years.

The first year of the award was 1987, when Bob McLelland of the Roanoke Times and Marshall Johnson of the Associated Press shared the honor.   The most recent recipients are former Liberty University and West Virginia University Sports Information Director Kevin Keys and former Ferrum College Tennis Coach Col. Earl "Bud" Skeens, both of whom earned the award in 2002.
