Mason-FCPS Math Dual Enrollment Program – Spring 2018

Program Description

The George Mason University Department of Mathematical Sciences partnership with Fairfax County Public Schools offers exceptionally talented high school students the opportunity to earn advanced university level mathematics credit. All courses are taught by Mason affiliate faculty and are offered on-site in FCPS high schools.

Admission Requirements

  • Current FCPS junior or senior
  • Minimum 3.25 FCPS gpa
  • Meet the application deadline, course registration form and payment submission deadline
  • Online application and $70 application processing fee

Courses of Instruction

  • Math 203 Linear Algebra   

Available only for Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology students

  • Math 214 Elementary Differential Equations
  • Math 351 Probability

If you are unsure of which course you are completing, consult your math teacher before applying.

Spring 2018 Application Process
 
STEP ONE:


If you enrolled, paid tuition, and participated in a Fall 2017 Fairfax Math Dual Enrollment class. SKIP STEP ONE! You only need to submit a new Course Registration Form and payment.
  If you DID NOT participate in a Fall 2017 Fairfax Math Dual Enrollment class, follow the instructions below for Steps One AND two.

Sign Up with First Name, Last Name, and Email Address

  • An email will be sent to the address used above with a temporary password link
  • Click on the link provided and you will be able to create a unique password
  • Click on Start New Application

After completing the steps above, you will be logged in to the application.   Use these guidelines to complete the application correctly. Complete the information required for each section and then click “SAVE” to identify any errors or “SAVE & CONTINUE” to move forward in the application.  The computer system will alert you if there are any missing portions of that page.

Priority Deadline: March 16, 2018
Final Deadline: March 23, 2018
Dual enrollment admission or registration WILL NOT be accepted or processed after March 23.

 
GO TO STEP TWO! YOU ARE NOT DONE WITH THE PROCESS UNTILL BOTH STEPS ARE COMPLETE. 

STEP TWO:


Submit the three following things to George Mason University (submission address and instructions below)

  • Completed Course Registration and Payment Form
  • An official high school transcript (if you did not take a Fall 2017 class)
  • Check or money order payment for the class - Tuition rate of $425.00 if Mason application, registration form, and payment are received by 4PM on March 16. Tuition rate of $550.00 if Mason application, registration form, and payment are received between March 17 and March 23 (before 4PM).

Forms and payments may be delivered in person to:

Student Union Building I (Ground Floor)

Enter the following into your GPS: 4469 Aquia Creek Lane, Fairfax

You may park right next to the building in 30 minute parking, or on the first floor of the Mason Pond Parking Garage which is directly past the building on the right. 

Enrollment Central accepts materials Monday-Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm only. Materials sent or dropped off to any other office/location may result in a missed deadline.

Course Fees:

  • Tuition rate of $425.00 if Mason application, registration form, and payment are received by 4PM on March 16.

Final Deadline:

  • Tuition rate of $550.00 if Mason application, registration form, and payment are received between March 17 and March 23 (before 4PM). 

Cash and credit cards are not accepted.

Returned checks will incur a NSF service charge and students are subject to cancellation of registration.
 
Please indicate the student’s full name in the check memo field.
 

Spring 2018 Enrollment

Applicants who meet the published admission criteria will be admitted and enrolled in the designated course. The canceled check serves as receipt of payment and verification of enrollment unless otherwise notified in writing by the Office of Non-Degree Enrollment. You will also receive an email when the process is officially complete.

Students and parents are required to provide a valid email address that will be used during the admission review and enrollment process.

Other Information

Social Security or TIN
The University is required to collect the applicant’s SSN or TIN for IRS reporting purposes. Applicants are not required to disclose either number on the online application. It is required on the Course Registration and Payment Form.

Mason Transcripts

At the end of the course, you will be emailed instructions on how to order your official Mason transcript. If you have previously taken the Fairfax Math program, you are able to order a transcript through the following instructions.
