INTO Mason Pre-Arrival Information
To help you have a smooth transition to Mason, we recommend you take advantage of our pre-arrival resources and information provided by the INTO Mason Student Experience team.
INTO Mason Fall Orientation begins on August 17, 2020. Based on Mason’s guidelines and guidance from the Virginia Department of Health in response to COVID-19, we will hold Fall Orientation online. Check back soon for more information.
INTO Mason's week-long orientation guides you through the first steps of your academic, cultural, and social journey here.
During the mandatory orientation, you will:
- Take the Versant English language placement exam.
- Get a Mason ID card (if you are in Virginia).
- Open your university email account.
- Turn in required health vaccination records and documents.
- Submit transcripts and test scores.
- Register for courses.
- Take a campus tour.
- Meet new students.

INTO Mason's August 17, 2020 and will be held online.
Students who do not check in online by August 17 will be charged a $250 late-arrival fee. If you cannot check in online or arrive in Virginia by that date, contact the INTO Mason team as soon as possible.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the INTO Mason Student Experience team are re-evaluating the airport transfer process to maintain the safety and well-being of both students and staff. Check back regularly, as the information will change.
If you want to schedule a pickup, submit your travel details online at least 72 hours before your arrival time. You must provide:
- Application ID.
- Personal contact details.
- Flight number.
- Arrival date and time.
- Where you will be traveling (for example, campus, hotel, etc.)
We will send a detailed confirmation email, then meet you at the airport and take you to your accommodation.
If you're an F-1 or J-1 student, you're allowed to enter the United States up to 30 days (but no sooner) before the start date on your I-20. If you arrive after the I-20 start date, you may be denied entry.
The airport transfer service is offered on the following days, depending on your program start date:
- Fall Semester (August): Saturday and Sunday before orientation
- Spring Semester (January): Saturday, Sunday, and Monday before orientation
- Summer Semester (May): Monday and Tuesday before orientation
If you arrive before you're able to move into on-campus housing, you have the option of staying in an area hotel.

We want you to stay healthy while you study here, which is why we require you to be able to get the care you need.
INTO Mason students with F-1 and J-1 visa status who will be living in the United States during the fall 2020 semester are required to have Mason’s UnitedHealthcare insurance. You will automatically be enrolled in the university-selected health insurance plan managed by UnitedHealthcare. Health insurance fees are paid to INTO Mason.
Student Health Services can provide specific information about your UnitedHealthCare insurance plan and coverage.
If you have a U.S. health insurance plan and believe you qualify for a health insurance waiver, check the waiver exemptions policies.
All immunization forms and documents must have English translations.
You can receive required vaccinations from your local doctor or hospital before you leave your country. If you do not have proof of immunizations when you arrive, we will schedule an appointment for you at Student Health Services through Mason's patient portal.
All required vaccinations are free if you're enrolled in the university-selected health insurance plan.
Student Health Services requires all newly admitted students or newly re-admitted students to submit immunization records through Mason’s patient portal by August 1, 2020.
All students must fill out parts 1 through 4 (part 2, if applicable) of the Immunization Record Form.
Students born after December 31, 1956, must provide documented proof that they have been immunized against certain communicable diseases. The document must be translated into English.
A health care professional must complete parts 5 through 8 of the form. Accepted proof of immunization must be submitted for hepatitis B, measles, mumps, and rubella, tetanus/diphtheria, meningococcal, and tuberculosis.
The Commonwealth of Virginia and George Mason University Policy #6004 mandate immunization requirements. Student Health Services is responsible for collecting and maintaining students’ immunization records.
