Helping a Friend

When a Friend Needs Help...

Let them know you care about their well-being and that you're there for them. Encourage this person to seek help, which can promptly alleviate a crisis and protect their health and well-being.

You can help a friend or acquaintance who shows signs that they are living with, or have been a victim of, harassment, sexual assault, relationship violence, or stalking.

  • Believe them. Don’t question or dismiss their experience.
  • Listen to your friend. Keep questions to a minimum, and ask how you can help.
  • Assure them that it's not their fault that this happened.
  • Tell them help is available. Share the resources on our Get Help page, and let them know you are here to support them in whatever choices they make.
