Forensics Team Wins Invitational Tournament

January 24, 2012

The weekend of Jan. 14-15, Mason’s Forensics Team bested 50 of the nation’s top college forensics teams, including 17 of the top 20 nationally ranked programs, to win the coveted Hell Froze Over (HFO) Invitational, a national tournament held at the University of Texas-Austin.

According to team director and professor of communication Peter Pober, “This is the toughest competition outside of the national and international tournaments scheduled later this semester.”

Recounting the tournament, Pober continues, “Twenty-two of our students advanced to elimination rounds with 41 different speeches and performances, more than any other team in the country.  All four classes (from freshman to senior) were represented in final rounds. No other team in the nation can boast that accomplishment.  I could not be more proud of our students and the honor they bring to Mason.”
