Take Online Precautions During the Holiday Season

Mason faculty, staff, and students are reminded that cybercriminals increase phishing attempts to steal usernames and passwords during the holiday season.
Information Technology Services (ITS) encourages the following precautions:
Examine email contents carefully. Fraudulent emails often have misspelled words, improper grammar, and requests for passwords or immediate action. Also, make sure the link matches the URL.
Check a link
Hover your mouse over the top of the link to see if the addresses match. If it is not a match, the link is likely malicious.
Turn off non-essential devices
Before leaving for winter break, turn off non-essential devices, including computers, servers, printers and monitors.
