Rachel Quinn, interim director of University Events at George Mason University for the past two years, has moved into the position permanently, Chief of Staff and Vice President of Communications and Marketing Frank Neville announced Wednesday.
Quinn has worked in University Events at Mason for 13 years, and for the past four years has served as associate director and recently as interim director.
In fiscal year 2017-18, University Events managed 111 Mason events on and off campus and scheduled or consulted on hundreds of others. As interim director, Quinn and her team handled several high-profile events, including the “It’s On Us” rally against sexual violence, featuring former Vice President Joe Biden, and various 2016 presidential election campaign visits to Mason.
The Events team also carried out two winter graduation ceremonies and one spring commencement; the dedications of Peterson Hall, the Potomac Science Center, and Wilkins Plaza; the 20th anniversary of the Science and Technology Campus; the ADVANCE partnership announcement with Northern Virginia Community College; and the Maker Faire NoVa, a university-wide event that attracted more than 5,000 attendees.
“Mason is a busy place and is a popular destination for public officials, community groups, and many others,” Neville said. “Part of this attractiveness is due to the excellent service provided by the University Events team. We are exceptionally fortunate to have someone of Rachel’s ability, experience and collaborative spirit working to make each of our events a success.”
