Presidential Search Committee
Meet the 19 members of the Search Committee who will recommend the most qualified candidates to the Board of Visitors.
Representatives include members of the Board of Visitors and Foundation Board of Trustees, faculty, staff, student body, alumni, and the business community. The university hired Greenwood/Asher & Associates to assist in the comprehensive search.
The search committee will recommend final presidential candidates to the Board of Visitors, who will make the final selection.
Search Co-Chair; Faculty Senate Chair; Sociology, Professor
Dr. Davis is chair of the Faculty Senate and presidential search co-chair. She is director of graduate studies in Sociology in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She earned her doctorate in Sociology from North Carolina State University.
Search Co-Chair, Vice Rector
Mr. Hazel is Vice Rector of the Board of Visitors and presidential search co-chair. An area business leader, he earned his JD from Mason in 1984. Mr. Hazel has served the university in many capacities, including as past president of the Alumni Association and as a member of the Board of Trustees.
Cultural Studies, Professor
Dr. Albanese is director of the PhD program in Cultural Studies and professor of English and Cultural Studies in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She earned her doctorate in English Renaissance Literature from Stanford University.
Ms. Bhuller is executive director of new product development at Politico. She earned her BA in Government and International Politics from Mason in 2002.
Mr. Blackman is vice president of Healthcare at Cognizant, a global information and technology services company. He earned his BA degree at Mason in 1993, double-majoring in American Studies and English.
Terri Cofer Beirne
Ms. Beirne is Eastern counsel for the Wine Institute. She earned her BA in Government and Politics at Mason in 1988 and was a member of the Board of Visitors from 2007-2011.
Mr. Davis represented the 11th Congressional District of Virginia in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 to 2008 and now serves as a director for Deloitte & Touche.
Mr. Kazmi is director of the Office of Business Development at the U.S. Agency for Global Media. He formerly served on the Board of Visitors at Virginia Tech.
Mr. Layton is a Public Administration major in the Schar School of Policy and Government and a native of Horseheads, New York.
Dr. Louis formerly directed the Division of Intramural Population Health Research at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development at the National Institutes of Health. She earned her PhD at State University of New York at Buffalo.
Ms. Moreno is the chief executive officer and a founding principal of The iMoreno Group, PLC. She served as assistant attorney general of the Environment and Natural Resources Division at the U.S. Department of Justice.
Ms. Moss has extensive senior leadership and executive experience with major corporations and state and federal government, including in the Carter administration and as Virginia’s secretary of administration.
CEO, Peterson Companies
Mr. Peterson is CEO of Peterson Companies, one of the largest privately held real estate companies in the Washington, D.C., area. He formerly served as the university’s vice rector and as a Mason Board of Trustees member.
Chair, Staff Senate
Ms. Reuscher is Community Manager in University Information in the Office of Communications and Marketing. She earned her MA in History from Mason in 2012.
Mr. Rice is a computer scientist who has held executive positions with the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, Honeywell Information Systems, the Pentagon, the U.S. Geological Survey and others. He is a former member of the Board of Visitors of James Madison University.
As a marketing and business management consultant, Ms. Scott is a founding team member at Integic Corporation and Agilex Technologies. She earned her BA in English from Mason in 1983.
Dr. Urgessa is a tenured associate professor in the Sid and Reva Dewberry Department of Civil, Environmental, and Infrastructure Engineering in the Volgenau School of Engineering. He received his PhD from the University of New Mexico in 2006.
Mr. Witeck is president of Witeck Communications, Inc. and is former communications director for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation.
Ms. Zuccari is a producer of short films and serves on film advisory boards and committees. A philanthropist, she focuses her efforts on children with learning disabilities. She earned a Bachelor of Individualized Study from Mason in 1989.
