Guidance on Coming to Campus

Mason has a multi-layered approach to fighting COVID-19. Our low rate of transmission is possible because our community takes this situation seriously.

If you think you might be sick, or have been around someone who is, please follow these protocols to reduce risks to the community.


 

Guidelines for Students and Staff

If you feel sick or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19
Look for an email from Mason COVID Health✓™
  • Follow all instructions.
  • Students: Notify your instructors
  • Staff: Notify your supervisors
Get tested
  • If you have symptoms, testing can be done immediately.
  • If you have no symptoms, wait 5 to 7 days from the contact date to get tested
  • Fill out the Mason COVID Health✓™ survey daily.
If you have a positive result
If you have a negative test and have had no contact with someone who’s tested positive
If you have a negative result but have had contact with someone who’s tested positive.

 

Guidelines for Instructors and Faculty

If you feel sick or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19

Self-isolate/quarantine; include exposure information when you fill out the Mason COVID Health✓™ survey.

Look for an email from Mason COVID Health✓™
  • Follow all instructions.
  • Notify your supervisors.
Get tested
If you have a positive result
  • Isolate for 10 days from the test date and/or symptom onset (whichever is longer).
  • Implement course backup strategy as needed. Notify local academic unit (LAU) head
  • Continue to fill out the Mason COVID Health✓™ survey daily as symptoms diminish and/or you complete the isolation/quarantine period.
  • When your Mason COVID Health✓™ survey result is green, you can come to campus.
If you have a negative result
  • Continue to implement course backup strategy as needed.
  • Notify local academic unit (LAU) head.
If you have a negative result but have had contact with someone who’s tested positive
  • Continue to implement course backup strategy as needed.
  • Notify local academic unit (LAU) head.
  • Quarantine for 14 days from last date of contact with the person who tested positive.
  • Continue to fill out the Mason COVID Health✓™ survey daily as you complete the isolation/quarantine period.
  • When your Mason COVID Health✓™ survey response is green, you can come to campus.
If you have a negative result with no contact with someone who’s tested positive
  • Continue to implement course backup strategy as needed.
  • Notify local academic unit (LAU) head.
  • Quarantine for 14 days from last date of contact with the person who tested positive.
  • Continue to fill out the Mason COVID Health✓™ survey daily as you complete the isolation/quarantine period.
  • When your Mason COVID Health✓™ survey response is green, you can come to campus.
