Mental and Emotional Well-Being
While COVID-19 is a threat to physical health, the stress of dealing with anxiety about the illness, as well as financial and family worries, can also be an issue. Mason is here to help.
Mental and emotional well-being support resources and services, which will be available both in person and virtually, include:
- Mason’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) staff, including clinical psychologists, social workers, counselors, learning specialists, and psychologists, provides tips and resources for coping with COVID-19. Services are free to Mason students.
- Students will be able to access in-person or virtual well-being focused programs through Mason’s Center for the Advancement of Well-Being, Student Involvement, and Recreation.
- The Student Support and Advocacy Center will contact students in quarantine or isolation who give consent to discuss resources and options for support. Counseling services will be available via telehealth.
- Student Health Services offers brief mental health and substance abuse services to students who screen positive in their primary care appointments.
- Faculty, staff, and covered dependents enrolled in Mason health care plans have access to Employee Assistance Programs, which offer confidential assistance with personal, physical, psychological, or financial challenges. Employees and their dependents are eligible for up to four free sessions. - Human Resources and Payroll created a resource list for those who do not have Mason benefits and/or are experiencing hardships as a result of COVID-19. Find medical providers, mental health assistance, food banks, domestic and sexual violence resources, and financial assistance in the three counties in which Mason has domestic campuses (Arlington, Fairfax, Prince William).
- All employees can access the university’s online learning system, MasonLEAPS, and participate in online learning related to well-being, mindfulness, resilience, and other topics.
- The Anxiety and Depression Association of America’s Top Ten COVID-19 Anxiety Reduction Strategies offers tips on how to reduce COVID-19 related anxiety.
- The JED Foundation’s COVID-19 Resource Guide for Students, Teens, & Young Adults offers resources targeted to young people
