Every year, we hold events to welcome new and returning students to Mason for fall semester. We’ll do the same this year, but in a different way.
The Preamble, held the week before classes started, and Welcome2Mason, held throughout September, combine traditional events with new educational and social experiences.
Some are virtual events, while others will take place on campus. Members of student organizations that plan events must take event management training by September 20, 2020. Other training, focusing on health and safety procedures, might also be required.
In-person events will follow health and safety guidelines.
Anyone participating in on-campus events must take Safe Return to Campus Training.
Organizations can set up contactless check-in via Mason 360, which will help them determine what kind of space capacity they need, as well as creating a list of participants in case contact tracing is required later.
Planning contingencies include:
- Facility layout plans for a variety of group sizes.
- Back-up staffing plans.
- Increase in power/wireless internet access for outdoor events.
- Weather-related back-up/rescheduling plans.
New and continuing graduate students are invited to Gradstravaganza, Mason’s annual graduate student welcome event, on August 21.
This virtual event features:
- Mini-workshops highlighting strategies for success.
- Special sessions for Graduate Assistants (GRAs, GTAs, and GPAs).
- Opportunities to meet and connect with fellow graduate students.
Sponsors include Graduate Student Life, the Office of the Provost, the Stearns Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Graduate and Professional Student Association.
In early August, the Graduate Student Life page will include details, including a full schedule of sessions and how to participate.
