Patriots: Brave, Bold, and Back!

We’re kicking off the academic year with an in-person New Student Convocation on Friday, August 20, followed by several weeks of Welcome2Mason activities

George Mason students celebrate homecoming at EagleBank Arena on the Fairfax Campus
Start the new academic year with a smile.

Gather to Welcome Our Students

We’d hoped to have in-person entertainment and lunch for the Mason community to celebrate our return to campus. However, elevated levels of COVID-19 and the Delta variant in our region have put those plans on hold.

We’d still love to see you decked out in your Mason gear at  our two Convocation ceremonies at EagleBank Arena on the Fairfax Campus on Friday, August 20.

One ceremony will be held at 12:30 p.m., the second at 2:15 p.m. Doors open 30 minutes before each one starts, and socially distanced seating will be available.

There will be no Faculty Staff processional this year. Enter through the North or South entrance.

Let’s celebrate our new and returning students and help them kick off an exciting and safe fall 2021.

"I am thrilled to confirm that the campuses of George Mason University will be fully open to welcome a record number of students. It has been a long road back from March 2020 when we had to shut operations down to stay ahead of the pandemic, but we find ourselves on the verge of fully reopening."
