Some guidelines for submitting a competitive speech:

The competition is based on the content and the quality of the speech. The goal is to share and showcase your "Mason story" and how you describe your overall Mason experience and growth as a student and member of the university community.

We encourage you to:

  1. Discuss all facets of your campus life experience
  2. Focus on your graduating class and your experiences together with an eye toward your future
  3. Engage the graduating class and their guests as a whole

Speeches should be able to be delivered in front of a large, live audience within a 5-7 minute timeframe. Speeches that require more than 7 minutes to be delivered will not be considered.

Once preliminary selections are made, those chosen will be invited to orally present their speeches to the committee for final selection. The total selection process should be completed Tuesday, April 9 to Friday, April 19. Winter Graduation Speakers should be announced on Monday, November 26.

Coaching and opportunities to practice your speech in the EagleBank Arena will be provided to the selectees.

Good luck, and congratulations on your upcoming graduation.
