William David Gibson Named September 2014 Employee of the Month

William David Gibson, a case management specialist in the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, has been selected as George Mason University’s Employee of the Month for September. The honoree, known as David, came to Mason in May 2007. “Working at Mason has been a positive experience that has helped me grow as a person,” he says. “The type of work we have and the limited time we have in which to do it are challenging, but the people with whom I work, in this office and others across campus, help me to meet those challenges and have fun doing it.”

Jamie Cooper, associate dean for academic affairs and Gibson’s supervisor for the past six years, wrote in nominating him, “David’s knowledge of university policies and curriculum, and his outstanding attention to detail are unparalleled. He provides exceptional service to the students, faculty and staff in the college and to all his colleagues across the university.”

Gibson’s colleagues also underscored his dependability and support for faculty, administrators and students. Catherine Wright, an associate professor in the Department of Communication and director of Undergraduate Academic Advising, says, “I can honestly and undoubtedly say that without his guidance, I would not be able to do my job well.”

In stressing that “David is a wonderful example of what makes Mason a great place to work,” senior assistant dean for undergraduate academic affairs Vita Vock says, he “has an amazing eye for detail, and the effort he puts into his work ensures our offices have a truly seamless interface with offices across campus.”

According to Beth Baroody of the Human Resources and Payroll Office, the award “was created to honor the best of the best at Mason. It’s a way to say thank you and recognize those employees who go above and beyond to contribute to the success of their school or department and to Mason.”

The Employee of the Month Award began in March 1991. Gibson is the 285th awardee. Nominations, which are submitted to the Human Resources and Payroll Office, are endorsed by the employee’s supervisor and unit department head. At least three supporting letters are expected.

This latest award will be presented by President Cabrera in his office on the fifth floor of Merten Hall at 11 a.m. on Sept. 3. Gibson’s family, co-workers and friends are all encouraged to attend the ceremony.
