U.S. Department of State Announces New System for Issuing Travel Advisories to Americans

February 4, 2018

Due to recent changes from the U.S. Department of State (DoS), University Policy 1134 (University-Sponsored or University-Related International Travel) has been updated with the numerical level advisory system, ranging from 1 to 4, to indicate whether there are any safety concerns.

DoS advisories are just one tool that Mason uses to make informed decisions about international travel. Be advised that some countries may have separate regional advisories within the overall country-level advisory. Therefore, it is the traveler’s responsibility to review the advisories in their entirety and govern themselves accordingly.
